How fast...

We accept new things as normal. I look at pictures of Corin from just a month ago and I don't recognize him. I think I've seen him without the hair for longer than I was willing to admit. The short cut suits him.

Though I do miss the strawberry blonde that the ends had turned.

Corin can...

Turn off a light switch with marginal success at turning it on
Drink from a straw
Wave bye bye (but not on command...no way is he doing it on command)
Clap (again, not if you ask)
Tell you what a cat says (Ma-ooooowwww, Maow, MaaaaAh)
Crawl up the stairs frighteningly quickly
Butt bump down the stairs (thank goodness)
Climb pretty much anything that's level with his waist or lower (with increasing ease)
Click his tongue (sometimes when he's trying to call a cat)
Give kisses (big, sloppy open mouthed ones... and occasionally a closed mouth peck)

Amaze me every day with new tricks, understanding and affection. He's a cuddler and I *love* it.

First conversation

Today, we were cleaning up around the house. Chrys and Ryanne had gone upstairs to clean up from the Great Cat Puke Day of 2007(TM) while Corin and I hung out downstairs.

Corin's wandering around. He hears the Spot Bot and wanders over to the stairs. He looks over at me.

C: "Da-ee gon?"
M: "Daddy went upstairs"
C: (waves) "bye bye" (begins crawling up the stairs)
M: Where are you going?
C: "Da!" (and keeps right on crawling until he finds Chrys)

He checked in, found him, and then went back to the stairs to make his way down.

I suppose it could all be in my head, but that's a lot of coincidences and well timed babble.

Stats

He's 30 inches tall (50%), and 23lbs 1oz (55%). His head is 47.4cm (75% - big, like his daddy's). He got 4 shots - prevnar, hep a, mmr and (to my dismay) chickenpox.

The chickenpox vax perplexes me as it did with her. I put it off with her for a while, but eventually caved. As much as I'd like to believe that they could be exposed to it naturally, I wonder how many people there are that really don't vax against it.

I don't know...the whole delayed/no vax thing drives me nuts. As much as I don't want to fill my children with things they don't need, part of the reason that they don't need them is because so many people have had them. So much of what we vax against is not eradicated world wide. Just because it hasn't popped up in the US doesn't mean it doesn't happen anywhere and people, who aren't vax'ed, can't bring it back to the US with them. I like the idea of delaying to make sure there are no sensitivities, but neither of them have shown any problems and, truthfully, I don't want the hassle.

I default to sheepdom. I vax my kids on the schedule the state suggests. I, then, hang out with many women that don't and beat myself up whenever they discuss benefits or delaying or possible risks from vaccines, etc.

We'll see what happens when they hit me with the HPV vax for Ryanne, though. I'm still uneasy about that one.

Reflections on the first year

In some ways, it's gone by much faster than Ryanne's. I think I got to enjoy more of it, though, since my life was calmer. I felt more at ease in my 'skin', too, than I did with her.

I'm sad because it's the planned end of my baby days. I'm also excited about what lies ahead. Ryanne has gotten to be so much more fun as she gets older, in different ways than I ever imagined. Corin is following closely in those footsteps and creating new paths of his own.

He amazes me every day with what he has learned - climbing (omg - the climbing), new words, kisses, hugs, pointing. He is gentle, yet truly a boy in so many ways. He loves to push things around - cars, chairs, his sister. He loves to climb - the piano stool, chairs, the dollhouse, the stools in the bathrooms. He *loves* to cuddle.

He's sleeping better - 11ish hours at night (no wakings 7pm to 6-7am) and two naps (1x 1ish hour at 9am and 1x 2ish hours at 1pm). We finally caved to some crying it out because I couldn't cope with hourly wakings and him slamming me in the face while he slept with us. His head is HARD!

He's finally eating just table food. We slowly transitioned, one meal at a time, and he decided it was ok as long as everything is small enough. It's certainly less messy that purees being spit back at me. He's not picky, but he still doesn't eat much. He nurses a lot...a whole lot...and I have a feeling he will for some time.

With his hair cut, he is so much the image of his father. They are both very handsome.

His one year appointment is tomorrow so I'll post those stats then.

We have a portrait appointment this afternoon and we'll do his one year and Ryanne's 3.75 year pictures.

Life is good. I can't believe it's his birthday. I can't believe my dad didn't meet him. I'm glad he met so many others.
